JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of a Sergeant or Lieutenant, this role is responsible for overseeing inmates and ensuring their care, safety, and security while upholding the regulations and cleanliness of the correctional facility. This position requires an armed assignment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in maintaining the security of the correctional and courthouse facilities.
- Receive, book, and secure inmates upon their arrival.
- Conduct regular inspections and searches of the facilities, inmates, and visitors.
- Supervise inmate activities, including court appearances, recreation, visitation, and meals.
- Transport inmates to and from various locations as required.
- Serve legal documents and warrants within the facility.
- Respond to emergency calls and routine complaints as necessary.
- Maintain required licensing standards, including firearms qualifications and continuing education.
- Ensure physical fitness to perform peace officer duties.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Conduct screenings and searches at the court facility entrance.
- Ensure the safety of judges and all individuals within and around the court facilities.
- Maintain security during court proceedings, including the custody of inmates.
- Make arrests in court at the direction of the Judge.
- Transport inmates and arrested individuals to the correctional facility, completing all necessary documentation.
- Guard jury members when required.
- Reports directly to - Sergeant or Lieutenant.
- Direct Reports - None.
- Ability to physically subdue and restrain aggressive inmates.
- Position requires constant standing and walking on concrete surfaces.
- Ability to drag a minimum of 165 pounds in a manner consistent with rescue and restraint techniques.
- Ability to hear audible sounds and communicate clearly.
- Safe operation of a motor vehicle and mobile radio equipment under various conditions.
- Ability to pursue violators on foot over rough terrain.
- Ability to discharge a firearm with either hand.
- May require working day and/or overnight shifts.
- Work in a maximum security facility behind locked doors.
- Exposure to individuals accused or convicted of crimes and potential biohazards.
- May involve outdoor work in various weather conditions.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.

Required
- TCOLE Basic Peace Officer License.
- Valid Texas driver's license.
- TCIC/NCIC training.
- TCOLE Basic Jailer certification.
- One (1) year of experience in a correctional facility supervising or monitoring inmates.
- Bilingual (Spanish).
Employment is contingent on passing a post-offer pre-employment screening, including:
- Criminal background check.
- Motor Vehicle Record check.
- Drug screening.
- Physical exam.
- Psychological exam as per TCOLE standards.
- Additional assessments as required.
