About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Aerospace Systems Safety Engineer III to join our team at Blue Origin. As a key member of our Lunar Transportation business unit, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing safety and reliability solutions for our space vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain safety and reliability analyses, including Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA), Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analyses (FMECA), and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to identify areas of opportunity for design improvements and minimize risk to people and property.
  • Participate in gated reviews to communicate safety and reliability analyses.
  • Apply technical principles and tools in Systems Engineering, including CONOPs development, requirements analysis, and interface definition.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of related technical experience.
  • B.S. in Engineering or related technical subject area.
  • Experience performing system safety and/or reliability analyses on satellites or human-rated in space systems.
  • Experience supporting development and close out of mitigation plans.
  • Experience performing compliance assessments of system safety processes and products against external standards.
  • In-depth understanding of fluids and mechanical engineering principles.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Proven ability to build processes necessary to get things done with minimal direction.
  • Proven ability to communicate component level through system level technical matters to teammates and management.
  • Some experience using systems engineering tools such as DOORs or Jama or Cameo.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills.
  • Experience assessing mission-specific risks as a result of the status of hazard controls.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with systems engineering principles, design, and testing of complex systems.
  • Experience with certification of human-rated space systems.
  • Experience with space vehicle design.
  • Experience with valves or mechanical components.
  • Experience with aerospace components.
  • Experience with CAD (Creo), Windchill PLM.
