Position Summary
As a Senior Adult Protective Services Specialist, you will be part of the Adult and Aging Services Department.

This role is distinct from other social work positions due to its focus on providing specialized support to elderly individuals and dependent adults requiring protective services.


Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess:

- In-depth knowledge of Adult Protective Services regulations and community resources.

Minimum Qualifications
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet one of the following criteria:
Pattern I
- Education: A Master's Degree in Social Welfare, Counseling, Psychology, Gerontology, or a related field, including supervised field placement.
- Experience: One year of full-time experience in social casework or counseling for elderly individuals or adults with disabilities.
Pattern II
- Experience: Three years of full-time experience as an Adult Protective Services Worker I within the classified service.
Pattern III
- Education: A Bachelor's Degree with relevant coursework in social/human services or behavioral sciences.
- Experience: Three years of full-time experience in social casework or counseling for the elderly or adults with disabilities.
- License: A valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license is required.

Knowledge and Skills
Successful candidates will demonstrate proficiency in:
- Crisis intervention techniques and principles.
- Understanding of sociology and psychology principles.
- Effective interviewing techniques.
- Knowledge of community resources and their application.
- Familiarity with relevant laws and regulations.

Examination Process
The examination will consist of:
1) A review of applications to verify minimum qualifications.
2) An oral interview for candidates who meet the qualifications, which will constitute 100% of the final score.
