Job Summary

The Ymcasatx is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Playhouse Chef to join our team. As a key member of our Early Learning Center, the successful candidate will be responsible for implementing overall food service for children and staff, ensuring a safe and sanitary environment, and maintaining compliance with all relevant health and fire regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe and sanitary environment in all food service areas.
  • Operate and clean all commercial food service equipment properly.
  • Ensure that food items are properly dated, stored, rotated, and inventoried.
  • Prepare food according to the posted menu.
  • Prepare the correct amount of food to ensure each child receives their appropriate serving size.
  • Prepare food in an appetizing and tasteful manner that is easy for children to eat.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Possess a working knowledge of safety and emergency procedures and be able to exercise sound judgment and report any unsafe conditions to supervisor immediately.
  • Serve as Primary Responder for all accidents and incidents.
  • Maintain room and facility cleanliness according to center guidelines.
  • Teach children proper procedures for using, cleaning up, and storing equipment.
  • Communicate effectively and exhibit a professional attitude with all other staff, parents, and children.
Requirements
  • Must be 18 years of age and have general nutrition experience.
  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Must complete food program training before assuming job duties.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain harmonious relationships by promoting caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility with staff, Ymcasatx members, and program participants.
  • Incumbent must be a positive role model to children and display emotional maturity and stability at all times.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Certifications required within the first 60 days of hire: YMCA approved basic life-saving skills such as CPR, First Aid, AED, and Emergency Oxygen.
  • Certifications required within the first 60 days of hire: CPR Pro and First Aid.
Work Environment and Physical Demands

Work is performed in an active environment. Incumbent must have the ability to communicate with staff, children, and parents. This position requires high levels of attention and alertness because of fire and cleaning chemicals. Visual acuity is required. Repetitive stooping and bending with regular lifting of up to 30 pounds is required. Ability to stand and walk for long periods at a time is required. Must be able to respond to emergency situations.
