Position Overview

The role involves the maintenance, repair, inspection, and oversight of avionics systems equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, various aircraft avionics line replaceable units (LRUs), navigation systems, communication systems, and associated support equipment (SE). The technician applies extensive technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to identify equipment malfunctions and utilizes expertise to restore equipment functionality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct testing, inspection, troubleshooting, and direct actions on avionics systems and SE to identify defects in electronic, electro-optical, and mechanical components.
  • Perform repairs, overhauls, and modifications on avionics systems and related aircraft systems.
  • Isolate malfunctioning equipment through functional checks, measurements, and various tests.
  • Utilize automatic diagnostic software for efficient troubleshooting.
  • Install avionics systems assemblies and sub-assemblies, ensuring proper connections and adjustments.
  • Reprogram avionics systems as necessary and maintain inspection records.
  • Execute avionics phase inspections on aircraft as required.

Qualifications

Knowledge: A solid understanding of aircraft avionics systems is essential. Familiarity with electronics principles, analog/digital components, microprocessors, and technical documentation is required. Knowledge of hazardous waste handling and disposal is also necessary. Proficiency in computer operations and Air Force supply procedures is mandatory.

Education: A high school diploma with coursework in physics, chemistry, and mathematics is preferred. Completion of an advanced avionics maintenance course is required.

Experience: A minimum of five years of experience in maintaining, troubleshooting, aligning, calibrating, or repairing avionics equipment and SE is essential. Qualification as an Avionics Technician is mandatory.

Certifications: Candidates must have held an Air Force Avionics AIS AFSC. Experience with specific LRUs and test equipment is preferred. Familiarity with classified materials related to avionics systems is required. A SECRET CLEARANCE is necessary for this position.
