Position Overview

_ On-call duties required (must reside within 30 minutes of the facility)_*

_ Additional supplemental pay ($2.00/hr)_*

_ $5,000 sign-on bonus for RNs with over 1 year of experience_*

Role Summary

The Surgical Services Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for delivering patient care through the nursing process, which includes data collection, assessment, prioritization of patient needs, and evaluation of nursing care outcomes. This role also involves coordinating patient education and collaborating with the healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments, analyze data, develop care plans, implement treatments, and evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Administer medications safely in accordance with state regulations and organizational policies.
  • Serve as the primary contact for patient care coordination across hospital departments.
  • Act as a patient safety advocate by engaging in continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Delegate tasks based on applicable laws, regulations, and the competencies of team members.
  • Manage nursing care for patients in the operating room and coordinate with the surgical team to ensure successful procedures.
  • Observe surgical procedures and assist the team in maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for patients.
  • Provide preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care, including assessments and discharge instructions.
  • Evaluate patients' conditions before, during, and after surgery to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgical team, manage sterile supplies, and maintain accurate records.
  • Participate in reprocessing if part of the Endoscopy team.

Licensing and Certification Requirements

  • Current RN License in the state of practice or covered by compact (required)
  • BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, must obtain from an approved source prior to direct patient care)
  • ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support (preferred)
  • PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association (preferred)
  • CNOR Certified Perioperative Nurse (preferred)
  • SGNA Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (preferred)

Educational Background

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (preferred)

Experience

  • 2 years of Critical Care experience (preferred)
  • Completion of OR internship program (preferred)

Training

  • Successful completion of Periop 101 (preferred)

  • Assist with procedures such as Foley catheterization and IV insertion.
  • Monitor adherence to aseptic techniques in the operating room.
  • Safely transport patients and assist anesthesia during procedures.

Work Environment

This role may involve periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads, exposure to physical altercations, verbal abuse, and hazardous materials. Individuals in this position are required to follow universal precautions and utilize personal protective equipment.

Patient Demographics

The RN must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served, from neonates to geriatrics.
