About the Role

The New York Foundling is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Developmental Disability Support Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Developmental Division, you will play a vital role in empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live fulfilling lives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of individuals in our care, implementing Individual Plans of Protective Oversight as needed.
  • Advocate for individuals in the community, facilitating access to medical appointments, recreational activities, and other essential services.
  • Implement and document individual plans of care, ensuring that each person's unique needs are met.
  • Administer medication as prescribed and assist with daily living skills, such as personal hygiene, food preparation, and housekeeping.
  • Maintain a safe and supportive environment, adhering to OPWDD and COA standards.
  • Facilitate individual learning and skill training in fire safety and other essential areas.
  • Document progress and maintain updated certifications in CPR, first aid, SCIP, and AMAP.
  • Provide a positive and supportive atmosphere, observing and reporting any regressive or unusual behavior.
  • Assist with meal planning and preparation, cleaning and maintaining the residential unit, and accompanying individuals on outings.
  • Attend workshops, trainings, and meetings to stay up-to-date on best practices and industry developments.
  • Support individuals in developing social skills and remaining on shift until relief arrives.
Requirements
  • AMAP, SCIP, CPR, and First Aid certifications preferred.
  • Valid NY/NJ/CT/PA Driver's License with 6 points or less required.
  • Experience working with adults with developmental disabilities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and a strong understanding of individualized support.
  • High School or G.E.D. equivalent required.
