Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced support professional to join our team at Chemlu Developmental Disabilities Center. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities.

The successful candidate will have at least a high school degree and experience in direct and active support of people with autism, down's syndrome, etc. or a bachelor's degree in a field related to health and mental care: psychology, special education, mental health, behavioral science, etc.

The role involves providing safety and support to our program participants, ensuring their health, safety, and welfare, and promoting their independence. The successful candidate will also be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships, providing information to parents about behaviors and interactions with the child, and upholding the standards set by the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP) Code of Ethics.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of clients with developmental disabilities.
  • Safeguarding and respecting the confidentiality of individuals and their families.
  • Promoting individual independence.
  • Assisting in developing and maintaining relationships.
  • Promoting and protecting the health, safety, and emotional well-being of clients.
  • Committing to person-centered supports and honoring the personality, preferences, culture, and strengths of clients.
  • Working in partnership with clients to support self-directed lives.
  • Implementing and adhering to established actionable plans.
  • Communicating effectively.
  • Establishing rapport and communicating positively with parents.
  • Providing information to parents about behaviors and interactions with the child.

Administrative and Company Policies

  • Commitment to company values and adherence to policies.
  • Upholding the standards set by the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP) Code of Ethics.
  • Being familiar with fire evacuation and emergency procedures within the home and community environments.
  • Maintaining all required certifications.
  • May be required to report to alternate work locations (job-coaching can take place anywhere in the community, within 10 miles).
  • Reporting problems and concerns to supervisors immediately.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by supervisors and/or senior management.

Education and Qualifications

  • High school diploma required, bachelor's or master's preferred.
  • Experience working with medically fragile people and with people with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
  • Valid driver's license and impeccable driving record.
  • Willingness to provide personal care.
