Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Interventional Radiologic Technologist II IR to join our team at Advocate Health. As a key member of our Interventional Radiology department, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and technical expertise in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Position patients for radiographic examination, ensuring proper anatomy or blood vessels are in the correct profile and projection.
  • Select technical factors to ensure high-quality images with the lowest possible dose to the patient.
  • Participate in and assist in complex interventional procedures, such as de-clotting of blood vessels, UFE, and venous ablations.
  • Perform procedures with Interventional Radiologists, vascular surgeons, neuro radiologists, neurosurgeons, and other specialists.
  • Obtain radiographic DSA and DA images for interventional procedures and transmit them to PACS for interpretation by the radiologist.
  • Participate in and assist in the performance of complex interventional endovascular neurological procedures, such as aneurysm coiling and stent placement.
  • Set up patients on appropriate cardiac and other monitoring systems, and interpret normal ranges on monitoring equipment.
  • Prepare patients in a sterile fashion for procedures, and maintain radiographic equipment and examination rooms to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Assist radiologists as needed during angiograms and special procedures, including the insertion of arterial needles and catheters.
  • Prepare patients for exams in a sterile fashion, including sterile prep and drape of the patient, and preparation of injectable contrast and solutions.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment by performing minor daily housekeeping tasks and contributing to the overall cleanliness of the work area.
  • Use Universal Precautions in daily performance of procedures, and protect self against bodily fluid contact.
  • Explain examinations to patients and families, and round on patients and families to ensure they are informed of procedure progress.
  • Maintain the timely flow of patients in and out of the Interventional Radiology lab by assisting with patient care and transportation of patients to and from care areas as required.
  • Report issues through established channels and participate in safety initiatives to promote patient safety.
  • Participate in team problem-solving to improve patient care, department operations, image quality, interdepartmental relationships, and employee satisfaction.
  • Provide information to radiologists about patient history, previous examinations, contraindications, and other related data to help achieve consistent quality of care and reduce or eliminate potential medical management problems.
  • Accept emergency calls and respond to them within 45 minutes of receiving the call.
  • Maintain inventory supplies to ensure adequate levels when necessary.
  • Record all pertinent patient information for accurate procedure charging.
  • Deliver patient care and maintain departmental standards of continued quality improvement.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills by answering questions from all customers, and utilize appropriate phone etiquette.
  • Develop leadership skills and professionalism through participation in department and/or hospital-based committees and continuing education programs.
  • Assume a leadership role in providing instruction and direction to students participating in the clinical program, and help evaluate their performance.
  • Identify problems and take steps towards resolution.
  • Provide instruction and direction to technologists in the performance of specific related duties.
  • Attend to personal work schedule in a consistent and professional manner.
  • Demonstrate self-direction by identifying learning needs and establishing self-development activities.
  • Complete all development goals and department in-services and competencies within the timeframe.
  • Attend and participate in department meetings.
  • Work independently while maintaining adaptability and flexibility for change.
Requirements
  • Must have attended an AMA-approved School of Radiologic Technology and be ARRT registered.
  • Must be able to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients and treat all customers with age-specific appropriateness.
  • Ability to perform most interventional radiology procedures usually performed in special labs with close supervision of the radiologist.
  • Demonstrates ability to use various types of radiographic equipment to obtain images of optimal quality.
  • Demonstrates good teamwork and cooperation with external/internal customers and good communication skills.
  • ARRT registered.
