Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Interventional Radiologic Technologist II IR to join our team at Advocate Health. As a key member of our Interventional Radiology department, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and technical expertise in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Position patients for radiographic examinations, ensuring proper anatomy or blood vessels are in the correct profile and projection.
  • Independently select technical factors to ensure high-quality images with the lowest possible dose to the patient.
  • Participate in and assist with complex interventional procedures, such as de-clotting of blood vessels, UFE, and venous ablations.
  • Collaborate with Interventional Radiologists, vascular surgeons, neuro radiologists, neurosurgeons, and other specialists to perform procedures.
  • Obtain radiographic DSA and DA images for interventional procedures and transmit them to PACS for interpretation by the radiologist.
  • Participate in and assist with complex interventional endovascular neurological procedures, such as aneurysm coiling, stent placement, and other stroke intervention procedures.
  • Set up patients on appropriate cardiac and other monitoring systems, interpreting normal ranges on monitoring equipment.
  • Prepare patients in a sterile fashion for procedures, maintaining radiographic equipment and preparing examination rooms and supplies.
  • Assist radiologists as needed during the performance of angiograms and special procedures, including the insertion of arterial needles and catheters.
  • Prepare patients for exams in a sterile fashion, including sterile prep and drape of the patient, preparation of injectable contrast and solutions.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment by performing minor daily housekeeping tasks and contributing to the overall cleanliness of the work area.
  • Use Universal Precautions in daily performance of procedures, protecting self against bodily fluid contact.
  • Explain examinations to patients and families, rounding on patients and families to ensure they are kept informed of procedure progress.
  • Maintain the timely flow of patients in and out of the Interventional Radiology lab by assisting with patient care and transportation of patients to and from care areas as required.
Requirements
  • Must have attended an AMA-approved School of Radiologic Technology and be ARRT registered.
  • Must be able to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients and treat all customers with age-specific appropriateness.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to perform most interventional radiology procedures usually performed in special labs with close supervision of the radiologist.
  • Ability to use various types of radiographic equipment to obtain images of optimal quality.
  • Ability to demonstrate good teamwork and cooperation with external/internal customers and good communication skills.
Working Conditions
  • Exposed to radiation.
  • Ability to deal with extremely ill patients.
  • Ability to communicate with patients.
  • Ability to adjust to flexible work hours, long hours, overtime hours.
  • Ability to participate in on-call programs and be available to department needs with minimal notice.
  • Ability to do light, medium, heavy lifting.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time while wearing a lead apron.
  • Ability to make independent professional decisions using good judgment skills.
  • Ability to practice high-quality patient care and technical competence.
  • Ability to function with minimal assistance in performing job activities.
  • Ability to demonstrate oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment with physicians and nurses.
