Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated individual to support our mission in providing exceptional care for animals and assistance to the public. This role involves collaborating with the Customer Care Manager and Director of Pet Support to meet daily operational goals related to animal intake, discharge, and various public inquiries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Welcome every visitor and volunteer at our facility with warmth and professionalism.
  • Deliver prompt and courteous assistance to inquiries regarding shelter policies and programs, both in person and via phone.
  • Coordinate intake appointments and conduct surrender counseling for pet owners.
  • Perform essential animal care tasks, including maintaining clean animal habitats and caring for neonatal animals when necessary.
  • Process documentation and maintain accurate records for animals that are surrendered or reclaimed.
  • Ensure that all animal records are updated in our management system for accurate tracking of intake, discharge, and adoption processes.
  • Conduct basic health assessments and administer necessary vaccinations, ensuring all data is recorded appropriately.
  • Facilitate the transportation of animals requiring emergency medical care.
  • Assist in creating lost pet reports and support customers in their search for lost animals.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the front desk area and public spaces.
  • Report any suspected cases of animal abuse or neglect to the appropriate authorities.
  • Provide information to potential adopters and guide them to available animals.
  • Perform general office tasks, including answering phones, data entry, and educating the public on responsible pet ownership.
  • Monitor and respond to organizational communications throughout the shift.
  • Report maintenance needs to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Complete necessary paperwork for spay and neuter services and schedule surgeries as required.
  • Support volunteers and community service workers in their tasks.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Strong customer service and communication skills are essential, along with experience in handling various types of animals.
  • All staff members are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, with exceptions for medical or religious reasons.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and more with assistance.
  • Comfortable performing physically demanding tasks regularly.
  • Ability to work with a variety of animals, including those that may be distressed or aggressive.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.

Education:

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
