Job OverviewPosition Summary:

The role involves supporting the Customer Care Manager and Director of Pet Support in meeting daily operational goals related to animal intakes, discharges, and other essential functions. This position requires interaction with the public to address a variety of animal-related concerns. The individual will contribute to the organization's objectives, such as enhancing the live release rate and upholding exceptional standards of animal care and humane treatment. Compliance with organizational policies and procedures is crucial.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Welcome every visitor and volunteer at the facility.
  • Deliver prompt and courteous assistance to customers regarding shelter policies and programs, both in person and via phone.
  • Coordinate intake appointments and provide counseling for customers surrendering their pets.
  • Carry out animal care tasks, including cleaning animal habitats and caring for neonatal kittens as necessary.
  • Process documentation and input data for animals that are relinquished or reclaimed.
  • Ensure accurate updates in the management system for all transactions related to animal intake, discharge, adoptions, and fostering.
  • Verify animal inventory and ensure proper identification is displayed.
  • Conduct basic intake assessments and administer vaccinations and medications, accurately documenting all information.
  • Organize transportation for animals requiring emergency medical attention.
  • Generate and review lost pet reports; assist customers in locating lost pets and strive to reunite them with their owners.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the front desk and lobby area, including public restrooms.
  • Report any suspected animal abuse or neglect to the appropriate authorities.
  • Provide information to potential adopters and guide them to available animals.
  • Perform general office tasks, including answering phones, data entry, and educating the public on responsible pet ownership.
  • Regularly check and respond to organizational emails.
  • Notify supervisors of any maintenance or repair needs.
  • Complete necessary paperwork for spay and neuter procedures and schedule surgeries as required.
  • Offer support and guidance to volunteers and community service participants.
  • Undertake additional tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications:

  • Strong customer service and communication skills are essential, along with experience in handling various types of animals.
  • All staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, with exceptions made for medical or religious reasons. Proof of vaccination or exemption must be provided prior to the first day of work.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and more with assistance.
  • Capability to engage in strenuous physical activities daily, including lifting, carrying, reaching, and bending.
  • Comfortable working with a variety of animals, including cats, dogs, and wildlife.
  • Ability to manage interactions with the public, including potentially hostile situations.
  • Occasional exposure to distressed or dangerous animals and various environmental factors.
  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
