Role Summary: RLC is seeking a Field Service Technician with hands-on experience to coordinate field access and perform installations and testing of vehicle systems ranging from simple to complex. Responsibilities include upgrading equipment, which encompasses software, hardware, and data telecommunications network components, as well as installing and terminating DC low voltage power and signal wiring.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in field service within the mass transit sector. Entry to mid-level candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Technical degree or industry certifications are advantageous.

Key Competencies:

  • Technical expertise or engineering background in the mass transit field.
  • Ability to adhere to schedules and follow instructions, fostering teamwork.
  • Proficient in understanding technical documentation, descriptions, and specifications.
  • Capability to assess work quality and implement improvements.
  • Skilled in using hand power tools, including calibrated tools and multimeters, with a willingness to learn specialized processes.
  • Adept at managing multiple tasks, adapting to changes, and solving problems creatively.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and comprehending documentation and instructions.
  • Experience in disassembling and installing components in various vehicle types, including working at heights.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs and comply with all safety regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct on-site project support and installation tasks, including equipment disassembly.
  • Engage in testing and integration activities as part of a collaborative team.
  • Participate in site meetings and provide relevant input to the project team.
  • Perform site surveys and supervise electrical subcontractors.
  • Validate network functionality and complete installation and commissioning duties.
  • Participate in annual safety training and testing.
  • Possess low voltage and network experience with both wired and wireless solutions.
  • Comfortable working with AC and DC high voltages when necessary.

Preferred Experience:

  • Ability to interpret wiring diagrams, construction drawings, and schematics.
  • Background in Radio Frequency (RF) technologies is a plus.
  • Experience with field installations, including testing of CCTV, access controls, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Familiarity with Axis Camera or similar IP camera technologies.
  • Knowledge of Extreme Networks and other wired and wireless network management technologies.
