Job Summary

Ochsner Health is seeking a skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team. As a Medical Laboratory Scientist, you will be responsible for performing laboratory tests and procedures to provide accurate and reliable results for patient diagnosis and treatment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and specialized laboratory testing, including blood tests, urine tests, and other diagnostic procedures.
  • Analyze and record quality control and instrument maintenance/troubleshooting data.
  • Escalate results that are out of control and ensure adequate documentation of corrective action.
  • Adhere to regulatory compliance guidelines and maintain awareness of accreditation standards for laboratories.
  • Follow safety guidelines and OIG compliance requirements.
  • Participate in performance improvement opportunities and support business development and cost reduction initiatives.

Requirements
  • Associate's degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical or biological science.
  • Current license in the state of practice (if applicable).
  • ASCP, AMT or AAB certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions
  • Heavy Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability).
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, reach and grab with arms and hands, manual dexterity.
  • Must be able to stand and sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be able to travel throughout and between facilities.
