The annual base salary range for this position reflects a nationwide market range and encompasses a wide array of salaries for this role across the country. What Is the Opportunity?

As a pivotal member of the Ceded Reinsurance Claims team, you will leverage your expertise to manage and process moderately complex reinsurance claims. Your contributions will support Travelers and its various business units in achieving critical financial objectives that significantly influence overall performance.

Key Responsibilities

Assess and validate reinsurance coverage for losses, particularly for intricate claims involving asbestos, hazardous waste, pollution, and cumulative injuries. Accurately calculate, analyze, and document financial outcomes for all losses, ensuring compliance with company guidelines while issuing timely notifications and billings related to reinsurance contracts. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to recover reinsurance receivables, address moderate to complex inquiries from reinsurers, and work with management to resolve intricate disputes. Engage in various Ceded Reinsurance and company initiatives and projects. Maintain regular communication with business units, brokers, and reinsurers to uphold service standards and cultivate long-term relationships. Attend reinsurer and broker meetings to discuss assigned claims and issues. Propose enhancements to systems, procedures, and workflows to boost operational effectiveness and efficiency. Conduct quality assurance audits and implement necessary adjustments. Mentor new team members and provide guidance to less experienced staff. Perform additional duties as required.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

Bachelor's degree. Comprehensive understanding of intermediate insurance and reinsurance principles, especially concerning the assigned lines of business; in-depth knowledge of Travelers' reinsurance program for these lines. Professional designation or progress towards one (MBA, JD, ARe, CPCU). Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence project outcomes with agents and brokers. Proficient verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal skills, enabling effective relationship-building with internal and external partners. Proven ability to devise innovative solutions for complex challenges. Capacity to adapt quickly to shifting priorities.

Required Experience

Minimum of four years in related insurance and/or reinsurance roles. Willingness to travel for meetings with external clients.
