About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Claims Representative to join our Complex Claims Unit in Hartford, CT. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for handling a caseload of complex, high-exposure construction defect claims from inception to final disposition.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of litigated and non-litigated construction claims under commercial general liability policies.
  • Conduct investigations and analyze and evaluate the information learned.
  • Making coverage determinations and communicating written positions to insureds and other required parties.
  • Within prescribed authority levels, set appropriate expense and indemnity reserves and monitor on a regular basis for any needed adjustments.
  • Present cases to management for expense or indemnity reserve authority above established authority levels.
  • Develop and implement resolution strategies to achieve high-quality outcomes.
  • Proactively manage litigation and counsel, inclusive of litigation planning and execution, budgeting, and bill review.
  • Attend trials and mediations as necessary.
  • Contribute to broader claim and enterprise goals by participating in audits, projects, and product development initiatives.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and deliver presentations to senior claim leadership on case developments, policy issues, industry trends, etc.
  • Work with business partners to evaluate and address claim trends and developments.
  • Address inquiries from agents and policyholders and provide superior customer service.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, law degree a plus or commensurate experience.
  • At least 3-5 years handling complex litigated construction defect property damage claims.
  • Experience with bodily injury claims is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with owner and contractor-controlled insurance policies and programs as well as wrap policies, is preferred but not required.
  • High level of discipline, results-oriented, and able to focus on bottom-line results.
  • Superior analytical ability and organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent strategic thinking ability and execution skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and advanced technical claim handling skills, including knowledge of coverage and tort laws.
  • Full command of damages issues relative to high-value construction defect and property damage claims.
  • Strong ability to analyze coverage and liability issues, manage time limit demands, and assess extra-contractual exposures and other issues of complexity.
  • Ability to communicate thoughts clearly and concisely, and to influence and persuade others.
  • Superior interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to exceed expectations and influence others to do the same.

The Hartford offers a competitive salary range of $61,600 - $92,400, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) matching, and paid time off. We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applications from diverse candidates.

This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our office locations (Hartford, CT, San Antonio, TX, Lake Mary, FL, Phoenix, AZ, Naperville, IL) will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.
