Web Communications Specialist

Knox College is in search of a skilled, innovative, and strategic Digital Content Strategist who will act as the institution's authority on engaging content for its primary online platform. This role will leverage expertise to enhance brand visibility and foster interaction through effective organic digital strategies and content creation.
Collaborating with teams within the Offices of Communications and Information Technology, as well as engaging with subject matter experts throughout the College, the Digital Content Strategist will work diligently to ensure that the College's website remains relevant and beneficial to its primary audiences. The website should align with the College's branding and strategic objectives, maintaining clarity, consistency, and a compelling narrative about this historic institution.
The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication skills, a strategic mindset, and the ability to manage multiple projects effectively while being an enthusiastic member of the Knox community. A remote or hybrid work arrangement may be considered based on the candidate's needs and location.
Key Responsibilities:- Act as the primary content creator and liaison for the College's website, collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders to identify, develop, and publish targeted web content.
- Develop a comprehensive web content strategy that aligns with the College's mission, branding, and strategic goals, implementing measurable tactics to achieve these objectives.
- Establish strong partnerships with internal and external subject matter experts.
- Oversee the web content calendar and manage the content lifecycle, including the creation and publication of new content, editing existing materials, and removing outdated information.
- Identify opportunities for enhancing website usability and functionality.
- Propose and lead initiatives aimed at increasing organic web traffic and optimizing content for both paid and organic search engine rankings (e.g., SEO).
- Regularly assess web content performance and provide monthly analytics reports, along with data-driven recommendations for improvement.
- Facilitate coordination between the website and other digital channels, including social media and digital advertising.
- Monitor competitors' online presence, emerging digital trends, and platforms to identify new opportunities and ensure adherence to best practices.
- Supervise student workers in the creation and maintenance of web content.
- Ensure that all public-facing web and digital content complies with regulatory standards (ADA, FERPA, copyright, privacy, etc.).
- A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in marketing and communications, with a preference for candidates experienced in web/digital strategy, content development, and user experience (UX).
- Proven understanding and experience in digital communications, organic content marketing and strategy, search engine optimization, and web analytics reporting.
- Proficiency with technology, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Google Analytics, and web content management systems.
- Experience in utilizing data to inform decision-making.
- Strong organizational and project management capabilities.
- Excellent communication skills, with a focus on detail-oriented, marketing-driven writing and the ability to convey the value of a liberal arts education.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
