Position Overview
The Patient Access Specialist role is pivotal in shaping the initial patient journey by executing essential functions that support optimal clinical care, billing accuracy, patient satisfaction, and the efficient management of the patient registration process.

Key Responsibilities
- Ensure precise completion of patient registrations in the Health Information System (HIS), safeguarding the integrity of demographic and financial data necessary for clinical and billing operations for each patient interaction.
- Manage time effectively and oversee work processes to meet both organizational and departmental standards.
- Conduct verification and assessment of insurance benefits and secure financial clearance for all payers during each patient encounter.
- Collaborate with the Centralized Referral Center to confirm that prior authorizations are secured.
- Investigate and rectify any registration discrepancies related to demographic, clinical, and insurance information.
- Adhere to state and federal regulations as well as institutional policies concerning compliance, integrity, and ethical registration practices.
- Prepare patient estimate letters and attempt cash collections when appropriate, processing patient payments for account reconciliation.
- Implement AIDET principles in all interactions with customers and patients.
- Review and confirm that all medical orders comply with governmental and hospital standards, along with clinical protocols.
- Conduct clinical screenings for specified modalities to ensure patient safety.
- Utilize computer systems effectively to enhance workflow processes.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the department supervisor or manager.
- Obtain insurance eligibility and benefit details from payers via phone, real-time eligibility (RTE), or online resources to provide patients with estimated financial responsibilities for requested or rendered services.
- Maintain an accurate cash drawer and manage related reconciliation and deposit functions.
- Exhibit excellent typing and data entry skills with a high level of accuracy.
- Demonstrate strong oral and written communication abilities.
- Complete detail-oriented tasks efficiently.
- Foster a positive attitude and work collaboratively within a team as well as independently.
- Uphold confidentiality and manage sensitive information with discretion.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Preferred: Associate's Degree.
Experience: Minimum of one year in healthcare access, customer service, or office/financial environments. Preferred: At least three years in similar roles.
