Position Overview
The Patient Access Specialist role is pivotal in orchestrating the initial patient interaction, ensuring that essential functions are executed to facilitate optimal clinical treatment, billing, reimbursement, and overall patient satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
- Execute accurate and comprehensive patient registrations within the Health Information System (HIS), safeguarding the integrity of demographic and financial data necessary for clinical and billing operations for each patient visit.
- Manage time effectively and oversee work processes to meet organizational and departmental objectives.
- Conduct verification and assessment of insurance benefits and secure financial clearance for all payors during each patient encounter.
- Collaborate with the Centralized Referral Center to confirm that prior authorizations are secured.
- Investigate and rectify any discrepancies in registration concerning demographic, clinical, and insurance details.
- Comply with state and federal regulations as well as institutional policies regarding ethical registration practices and integrity.
- Prepare patient estimate letters and pursue cash collections when appropriate, processing patient payments for account reconciliation.
- Uphold the AIDET principles in all interactions with customers and patients.
- Review and ensure compliance of all medical orders with governmental and hospital standards, alongside clinical protocols.
- Conduct clinical screenings for specified modalities to guarantee patient safety.
- Utilize computer systems effectively to enhance workflow efficiency.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the department supervisor or manager.
- Acquire insurance eligibility and benefit information from payors through various means to provide patients with estimated financial responsibilities for services rendered.
- Maintain an accurate cash drawer and manage cash drawer reconciliation and deposits.
- Exhibit excellent typing and data entry skills with a high level of accuracy.
- Ensure effective use of computer systems to support efficient workflow processes.
- Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.
- Complete detail-oriented tasks with precision.
- Foster a positive attitude and work collaboratively within a team as well as independently.
- Maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information responsibly.

Minimum Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate's Degree preferred.
- Experience: A minimum of one year in healthcare access, customer service, or a financial setting is required; three years of experience in similar roles is preferred.
