Position Overview:
The selected candidate will engage in traffic evaluations, studies, and preliminary engineering, alongside transportation planning, culminating in the development of comprehensive design plans for traffic signals, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), lighting, signage, pavement markings, traffic management, and construction sequencing. This position demands a high level of independent judgment to execute assignments that significantly influence services or programs. While guidelines may be available, they often require interpretation to determine the most effective actions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize a broad understanding of civil engineering principles to devise innovative and interrelated solutions.
- Design traffic management plans, signage and marking layouts, signal systems, lighting, ITS, and all necessary documentation for construction.
- Conduct thorough traffic analyses, safety assessments, traffic impact studies, and traffic signal timing, providing the foundation for design recommendations.
- Produce clear and concise technical reports that summarize analysis findings, articulate issues, and present recommendations with supporting rationale.
- Interpret engineering plans, specifications, and reports effectively.
- Prepare and review plans, calculations, cost estimates, and recommendations.
- Experience in public engagement and collaboration with local and state agencies is preferred.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering is required.
- A Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the relevant jurisdiction is mandatory, or the ability to obtain it within six months.
- Additional certifications such as California Traffic Engineer (T.E.) and/or Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) are advantageous but not required.
- A minimum of three years of experience is necessary, with ten years preferred for consideration as a Senior Project Engineer.
- Experience with local state and municipal projects is essential.
- Proficient knowledge and skills in MicroStation and AutoCAD are required.
- Preferred candidates will have experience with traffic modeling software such as Synchro, HCS, Vissim, and AGI32 (lighting).
- Familiarity with roadway modeling software like Civil 3D and InRoads is a plus.
- Marketing experience is an added advantage.
This role will operate under general supervision while exercising independent judgment within established guidelines. The position requires advanced analytical skills to interpret and deduce from varying facts or circumstances. The ability to quickly establish rapport with team members and foster a positive collaborative environment is crucial. A working knowledge of engaging with diverse populations with tact, diplomacy, and respect is essential.
