Primary Responsibilities

The Transportation Division/Traffic Engineering and ITS Business Class of HDR is seeking a creative, highly talented Senior Traffic Operations Engineer for immediate employment in our LA region offices. The successful candidate will have experience in traffic engineering planning and analysis, as well as emerging technology-related traffic engineering issues. Projects will include assignments such as the LAX Program Management, LA Metro, OCTA projects, Nevada DOT On Call contract, Sepulveda Transit Corridor, I-605 CIP, and the Shoemaker Bridge Improvement projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide design oversight for the production of roadway, lighting, signing, pavement marking, traffic signals, and traffic management system design plans, intersection design capacity, and signal warrant analyses.
  • Assist in providing oversight of the traffic control and sequencing plans throughout the construction phase of the project.
  • Serve as a technical expert with recognized authority in an area of specialization that resolves problems of greater scope and complexity.
  • Organize and supervise work of medium to large staff of professionals and technicians as needed.
  • Serve as project manager on larger projects, though project management is not the sole focus of the position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and Transportation Engineering.
  • PE license is required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in ITS and traffic engineering for urban and rural highways, major and minor interchanges, and intersections.
  • A minimum of 6 years of traffic analysis, operations, and traffic engineering.
  • Knowledge of regulations of state and federal transportation agencies.
  • Hands-on experience with Highway Capacity Software, Synchro/SimTraffic, AIMSUN, VISSIM, and other advanced traffic analysis tools.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Word, and other software and databases integral in our business.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, presentation skills, and ability to work in a team environment.
