Role Overview:
Clinical Transplant Specialists are integral members of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to providing personalized care to patients undergoing organ transplantation. Key responsibilities include managing patient care throughout all stages of transplantation, encompassing pre-operative, peri-operative, and post-operative phases.
Key Responsibilities:
PERI-OPERATIVE:
- Facilitates the coordination of potential transplant surgeries.
- Communicates effectively with patients, transplant physicians, surgical teams, donor teams, and hospital departments to ensure smooth patient admissions for transplant or living donation.
- Maintains accurate documentation of transplant surgeries in accordance with OPTN/UNOS/AHTI policies.
POST-OPERATIVE:
- Oversees patient care in outpatient settings to promote optimal recovery.
- Enhances patient education and understanding.
- Monitors and evaluates patients for potential post-transplant complications.
- Assesses patient adherence to post-transplant care plans and medication regimens.
BONE MARROW TRANSPLANT:
- Coordinates the integration of patients into the program by scheduling necessary tests, procedures, and family services. Expedites all BMT protocols and informed consent processes.
- Schedules pre-bone marrow transplant evaluations for patients and donors, as applicable.
- Arranges post-bone marrow transplant evaluations and testing in collaboration with attending physicians and office protocols.
- Conducts calendar mapping for transplant conditioning.
- Communicates with cryopreservation laboratories to coordinate bone marrow harvesting, processing, cryopreservation, and reinfusions.
- Coordinates schedules for stem cell collections and harvests with relevant departments.
Qualifications:
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION:
+ Current valid State of Florida or multi-state license as a Registered Nurse
+ BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
+ If working in the BMT unit – ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
Preferred Experience:
+ Background in Cardiovascular care
