Position Overview:
The role of the Registered Nurse involves delivering both direct and indirect nursing care to patients or groups of patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Comprehensive Patient Assessment: Conducts thorough admission assessments to provide a clear understanding of the patient's condition. Maintains detailed documentation that includes care plans, interventions, and outcomes reflecting the patient's physical, mental, and emotional health. Regularly reassesses patients on a shift-to-shift basis and completes transfer/discharge documentation, ensuring the patient's needs are met for continued care.
- Medication Administration: Adheres to the 5 Rights of Medication Administration, clearly communicating to patients and their families about the medications being administered. Evaluates patients prior to medication administration, considering allergies, vital parameters, potential side effects, and effectiveness, while providing pain management as needed.
- Ensuring Patient Safety: Identifies potential safety risks upon patient admission and strictly follows hospital policies and procedures to mitigate these risks. Initiates necessary interventions based on identified risk factors.
- Patient and Family Education: Evaluates the educational needs of patients and their families, providing tailored instruction using effective teaching methods. Monitors and documents the responses to educational interventions.
- Delegation and Supervision: Implements the 5 rights of delegation, coordinating and supervising nursing care delivery while maintaining accountability for delegated tasks. Clearly defines the roles and responsibilities of team members involved in patient care.
- Leadership and Teamwork: Fosters a positive work environment through exemplary personal conduct and collaboration. Takes on the charge nurse role, demonstrating strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills while addressing unit staffing needs proactively.
- Care Delivery Standards: Complies with Nursing Standards of Practice, including assessment, care planning, interventions, and evaluation of care plans, while adhering to unit-specific standards.
- Additional Duties: Performs other responsibilities as assigned and ensures compliance with all position-related requirements.
Qualifications:
Education: Associate's Degree in Nursing.
Licensure: Must possess a valid nursing license in the State of Connecticut.
Experience: Entry-level experience is acceptable, with a preference for candidates who have completed Basic Cardiac Life Support (CPR) training within three months of hire.
Working Conditions:
This position requires significant manual skills and coordination, with the physical ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force. The work environment may involve exposure to various occupational hazards.
Certifications: Required certifications include ACLS, ENPC, PALS, RN, and TNCC.
