Radiation Oncology Nurse Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Radiation Oncology Nurse Specialist to join our team at Norwalk Hospital Association. As a key member of our Radiation Therapy department, you will provide clinical leadership and expertise in the area of radiation oncology.
Responsibilities- Assist Radiation Oncologists with weekly visits and implement physician orders.
- Perform nursing assessments at the time of simulation or within one week of start of therapy, including medication reconciliation.
- Assess patients for special needs, such as skin reactions, weight management, vital signs, dietary needs, and social services, and plan appropriate interventions.
- Educate patients, their families, and healthcare providers on treatments, side effects, and symptom management.
- Perform direct patient care as needed, including monitoring IVs and other equipment, skin care, safety assessment and monitoring, administration of medication as ordered by the MD, and assisting with implants and brachytherapy procedures.
- Document all assessments and clinical care provided, referrals for services, communication with other departments or physician offices, and administration of medications in the medical record.
- Maintain liaison with other disciplines, such as nutritional support, speech therapy, social work, navigators, social services, inpatient staff, and office staff.
- Present a positive professional image by exhibiting good patient experience skills, positive communication skills, professional behavior, and appearance.
- Fulfill all compliance responsibilities related to the position, including management of supplies in exam rooms and equipment.
- CT RN License
- Bachelor's Degree
- Three years of experience
- Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
- Formal radiation/oncology training, OCN desired
This position requires medium to heavy physical effort, with the ability to exert up to 35 pounds of force. The working conditions are generally pleasant, with little or no potential for occupational risk.
