About The Institute for Matter and Systems (IMS)

The IMS is an interdisciplinary research institute at Georgia Tech dedicated to tackling societal and technological challenges through integrated knowledge and expertise across various fields:

  • Understanding and controlling matter at multiple scales.
  • Synthesizing and characterizing materials for desired properties.
  • Designing advanced devices and components.
  • Integrating materials into comprehensive systems.
  • Utilizing computing and big data to drive advancements.
  • Incorporating economic and social factors for sustainable research outcomes.

IMS focuses on interdisciplinary research in areas such as:

  • Microelectronic technologies for efficient information processing.

Job Summary

This role involves supporting research activities within IMS cleanrooms and laboratories. The candidate should be well-versed in cleanroom protocols and equipment operation, capable of independently performing various tasks including training, fabrication processes, and troubleshooting. A comprehensive understanding of IMS cleanroom technologies is essential for providing effective support to users in fabrication, optimization, and proposal preparation. Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset are crucial for interacting with users from diverse disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with research groups on cutting-edge projects, offering consultation and support.
  • Develop innovative processes for critical research needs within the cleanroom.
  • Conduct independent research and secure external funding.
  • Stay updated on advancements in nanotechnology and identify opportunities for integration.
  • Provide processing support and training for cleanroom users.
  • Perform routine equipment tests to ensure optimal performance.
  • Educate researchers on nanotechnology through various formats.
  • Coordinate with staff and users regarding equipment upgrades and testing.

Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in science, engineering, or a related field, with three years of relevant experience, or
  • A Master's degree in science, engineering, or a related field, with five years of relevant experience post-bachelor's degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Master's or higher degree in Engineering/Science with five years of laboratory/cleanroom experience.
  • Extensive experience in microelectronics fabrication processes.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor materials and processes.
  • Experience with chemical/biological sample analysis techniques.
  • Strong communication skills in English.
