The Optum Life Sciences Client Solutions team is dedicated to enhancing the adoption and utilization of technological solutions by cultivating, expanding, and nurturing relationships with research, scientific, and commercial leaders in life sciences through the application of Optum's data assets and technological innovations.


Important Information:

This role focuses on account management and requires a strong foundation in data, moderate analytical skills, particularly in SQL and Excel, along with commercial support responsibilities.

This position is distinct from traditional analyst roles and does not involve analytical projects or conventional business consulting or engineering tasks.

We seek candidates with proficiency in SQL, experience working with claims and electronic health record data, and exceptional customer service abilities.

You will have the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere within the U.S. while tackling challenging tasks.


Key Responsibilities:

Data and Analytical Support:

Act as the primary analytical data support lead, collaborating with proprietary life sciences databases to assist assigned Optum Life Science clients; evaluate data-focused research inquiries from clients, providing necessary analytical support for client discussions; possess the ability to ask and answer critical questions regarding data, ensuring results are not taken at face value.


Client Intelligence Leadership:

Conduct research to track significant developments at life sciences clients, including market updates, drug development pipelines, FDA approvals, and other pertinent news; synthesize key insights to enhance overall strategy, service delivery, and growth.


Enhancing Team Impact:

Generate additional value for client solutions by actively participating in a variety of internal operational improvement initiatives as directed by leadership, serving as an internal liaison to ensure client support needs are met.


Resource Development:

Create innovative slide presentations, packaging, case studies, proposals, and other materials as needed to support service delivery for leadership.

Provide critical data delivery support by ensuring the Optum data delivery team receives well-defined client specifications to facilitate successful data delivery.

Manage TPA tracking and fulfillment, follow up on JIRA tickets in coordination with leadership, and provide data summaries, counts, and routine checks as necessary.


Estimated Time Allocation:
Internal support (Analytical, data delivery, intelligence): 50%; Client support: 30%; Internal improvement initiatives: 20%.

Required Qualifications:


3+ years of demonstrated professional experience working with data in the life sciences sector, healthcare field, or life sciences management consulting, or analytical roles on the provider or payer side.

2+ years of experience supporting clients or large projects for internal/external stakeholders, preferably in the life sciences domain.

2+ years of experience with patient-level healthcare data (claims, EHR, pharmaceuticals, etc.) to support both internal and external clients.

2+ years of experience evaluating data to present findings to clients based on business deliverables/requirements.

Experience presenting to a diverse range of internal and external clients through various media.

Intermediate to advanced proficiency in PowerPoint (ability to create and modify presentations).

Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel (ability to create spreadsheets, pivot tables, link cells with minimal supervision; executive-ready formatting).

Experience collaborating across clients and supporting team members in fulfilling data and advanced analytics responsibilities.

Working knowledge of or experience with SQL or R.

Willingness to travel up to 20%.


Preferred Qualifications:

3+ years of experience working with data in the life sciences industry or life sciences management consulting.

3+ years of analytical experience on the provider or payer side.

2+ years of experience managing large life sciences projects, including developing project plans, timelines, and driving project teams to completion.

2+ years of experience supporting clients in the life sciences sector.

2+ years of experience using SQL or R to conduct healthcare analytics for internal and external clients.

2+ years of experience working on data-driven projects to support client management.
