POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a skilled Patent Agent or Associate with a strong background in life sciences to join our team at Vanguard-IP. This role requires a deep understanding of scientific principles and the ability to translate complex biological concepts into patent applications.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
- Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Immunology, or a related biological discipline.
- Research experience in cell biology, gene therapy, structural biology, or immunology.
- Admission to the USPTO or bar required; post-doctoral experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with the life sciences sector.
- A strategic mindset with a commitment to advancing cancer therapies and vaccines.
- Experience in IP litigation or judicial internships is advantageous for associates.
- Proficiency in patent drafting and searching within a law firm setting for agents.
- Strong verbal communication skills to present scientific ideas to diverse audiences.
- Exceptional scientific writing capabilities, including the ability to analyze and articulate complex scientific concepts and synthesize extensive literature into concise descriptions.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and attention to detail.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within team environments.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Evaluate scientific literature, patents, and applications across various biology fields, including cell biology, cancer biology, immunology, genetics, and molecular biology.
- Conduct thorough searches for relevant scientific articles and patents.
- Perform detailed analyses comparing inventions with existing technologies.
- Identify key elements and features of inventions.
- Draft comprehensive patent applications, including background information, critical features, and claims that distinctly define the invention.
- Prepare responses to patent application rejections from the USPTO and other patent offices, providing detailed analyses and persuasive arguments.
- Conduct freedom-to-operate and patentability assessments on prior art and patent documents.
- Collaborate with colleagues on various projects, adapting to different team dynamics and presenting ideas clearly.
- Engage with clients throughout the patent prosecution process, clarifying distinct features of inventions and addressing inquiries promptly.
