The Parkview III nursing unit at Fairview Hospital specializes in the care of post-operative patients. This unit caters to individuals who have undergone various surgical procedures, including orthopaedic, spine, low-risk bariatric, urology, vascular, colorectal, and general surgeries, as well as a wide range of surgical and trauma cases. As a Clinical Nurse Resident, you will engage in a comprehensive residency program tailored to your individual needs and pace, where you will:

• Deliver direct nursing care.

• Be partnered with a mentor who will guide you towards achieving your goals.

• Enhance your clinical judgment, develop outstanding communication skills, and master complex nursing techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in a residency core curriculum tailored to your unique learning requirements.
  • Provide direct nursing care, alongside a mentor, in accordance with established protocols and policies.
  • Establish and/or adjust priorities for patient care activities based on acuity, patient preferences, and resource availability.
  • Initiate and/or maintain interventions to ensure the continuity of safe and effective patient care.
  • Respond to data indicating potential health risks and take action to mitigate, reduce, or prevent those risks.
  • Seek supervision and assistance when unable to perform tasks safely and independently.
  • Adhere to established hospital and departmental personnel policies.
  • Utilize effective communication strategies to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Document in the patient's medical record according to established guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements:

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
  • BSN is preferred.

Licensure and Certifications:

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Proof of Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) must be provided upon hire.
  • For those in Critical Care areas, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from AHA must be obtained upon hire or within the first year of employment.
  • Within one year of hire, RNs in specialized areas will achieve and maintain appropriate certifications as required.

Work Complexity:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be capable of functioning in a high-pressure environment and taking appropriate actions.

Experience Requirements:

  • New graduates or RNs with less than one year of experience, or those transitioning from non-inpatient to acute direct care settings with less than one year of current acute care experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires prolonged standing and walking.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal ranges.
  • Must be able to work under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids is expected.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Adhere to Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
