As a Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Thoracic Surgery Step-down unit, your role will involve caring for patients recovering from various surgical procedures, including esophagectomies, thoracotomies, hiatal hernia repairs, and more. You will be equipped to manage complex medical histories and innovative surgical interventions, with a focus on pain management and nutritional support. Registered Nurses in this unit will also receive specialized training to care for patients with tracheostomies.
Your primary responsibilities will include:
• Delivering direct nursing care in line with established protocols.
• Observing, documenting, and communicating patient conditions effectively.
• Developing and implementing patient care plans.
• Administering prescribed medications and treatments.
• Conducting thorough bedside hand-off reports and daily rounds.

Program Offering Overview:
For full-time nurses: up to $437.50 per month/lifetime maximum benefit of $15,750.
For part-time nurses: up to $218.75 per month/lifetime maximum benefit of $7,500.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct nursing care in accordance with established policies and protocols.
- Monitor, document, and communicate patient conditions appropriately.
- Evaluate and update care plans to achieve desired outcomes.
- Coordinate care among various healthcare disciplines.

Qualifications:
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred.
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification may be required based on the unit.
- Experience in acute care settings preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Full range of motion, including lifting and handling patients.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Work under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Adhere to standard precautions using personal protective equipment as necessary.
