Position Overview

As a vital member of the Army National Guard, you will serve as the primary responder to health crises affecting both civilians and military personnel. This role encompasses a rewarding journey as a skilled caregiver, both in times of peace and conflict.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide immediate medical assistance to injured personnel in combat situations.
  • Support both outpatient and inpatient medical care.
  • Deliver training to Soldiers in Combat Lifesaver and First Responder courses.
  • Oversee the medical readiness of Soldiers, including management of medical supplies and equipment.

Skills Development
  • Learn advanced patient care techniques.
  • Gain expertise in sophisticated medical procedures.
  • Master plaster casting and other essential medical skills.

Essential Qualities
  • A genuine passion for helping and caring for others.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to perform under pressure.
  • An interest in subjects such as chemistry, biology, psychology, and general science.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.

Through rigorous training, you will acquire the competencies necessary for a successful career in civilian healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, and rehabilitation centers. Opportunities may also arise in roles such as emergency medical technician, medical assistant, or physician's assistant. Certification from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians at the EMT level or higher is required for this position.

Compensation and Training
Instead of incurring costs for training, you will receive a salary while you learn. In the Army National Guard, you will acquire these essential skills while earning a steady income and qualifying for educational assistance.

Training for Health Care Specialists consists of 10 weeks of Basic Training, where foundational Soldiering skills are taught, followed by 16 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT) focused on patient care practices. The length of AIT varies based on your chosen specialization, combining classroom instruction with practical field experience.
