Job Title: Medical Technologist Generalist

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Technologist Generalist to join our team at Ingalls Memorial Hospital. As a Medical Technologist Generalist, you will be responsible for performing routine tests, operating state-of-the-art instruments, and caring for blood services support for the hospital and patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Observe and adhere to all corporate compliance requirements and communicate issues as they arise to the appropriate parties.
  • Identify opportunities to improve departmental efficiency through time and cost savings contributions.
  • Control and maintain inventory and supplies for section at an optimum level.
  • Provide technical assistance to customers when appropriate and promote teamwork through communication and support.
  • Perform standard, specialized automated and non-automated laboratory techniques.
  • Operate all laboratory instruments within their section and insure proper functioning of equipment for patient testing by performing necessary quality control and/or calibrations.
  • Trouble shoot instrument malfunction and performs major repairs on selected instruments.
  • Maintain records/documentation and processes data and enters results into computer system, demonstrating proficiency on the LIS/HIS systems.
  • Prepare samples for analysis and determines acceptability of samples for testing according to departmental policy and procedures.
  • Have the ability to work all workstations within their assigned department/section and can be cross-trained to work at least one station or another.
  • Accurately verifies results within time line limit.
  • Evaluate and interprets results. Recognizes/reports abnormal results, identifies, calls and documents critical value results 100% of the time.
  • Adheres to Standard Precautions, Hospital and Laboratory safety policies and procedures 100% of the time.

Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of medical laboratory technical procedures, concepts, and applications normally attained through successful completion of a baccalaureate degree with specific training in medical technology and/or successful challenge of an accredited proficiency examination.
  • MT (ASCP), MT eligible or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least one year of pertinent laboratory experience.
  • Knowledge and ability to use laboratory/hospitals information systems.
  • Knowledge and ability to use automated and conventional laboratory equipment.

Position Details:

  • Job Type/FTE: PRN (0.10)
  • Shift: Rotating Shifts (8-hr), as needed - Required every other weekend on 3rd shift.
  • Unit/Department: Blood Bank/Core Lab
  • CBA Code: Non-Union

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement:

Must comply with Ingalls Memorial Hospital's COVID-19 Vaccination requirement as a condition of employment. If you have already received the vaccination, you must provide proof as part of the pre-employment process. This is in addition to your compliance with the Flu Vaccination requirement as well. Medical and religious exemptions will be considered consistent with applicable law. Lastly, a pre-employment physical, drug screening, and background check are also required for all employees prior to hire.
