Job Summary

The City of New York is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented individual to fill the role of Domestic Violence Audit and Billing Specialist in our Shelter Operations Unit. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for processing payments and reimbursements to shelter providers, verifying shelter attendance records, and supporting documentation for domestic violence emergency shelter programs and transitional housing programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review billing invoices for domestic violence shelter program providers, ensuring accuracy and validity of invoices and investigating erroneous billing invoice entries.
  • Review daily attendance, transfers, and movement of residents in shelter, date payment ending (DPE) tracking system, safety transfers, requests, and approvals of extensions and payment of shelter for up to the maximum length of stay.
  • Evaluate referrals for extended shelter stays in HRA domestic violence Tier II transitional units, analyzing case information and regulations to assess eligibility for extended stays beyond maximum length of stay and transfer to Tier II facilities.
  • Verify received information concerning client cases by phone, email, in person, and contacting third-party sources and other relevant sources to confirm accuracy of information.
  • Provide customer service to shelter providers, responding to provider questions/inquiries concerning shelter monthly billing submissions and liaising with providers to resolve invoice and/or reimbursement disputes.
Requirements
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, one year of which must have been in an administrative capacity or supervising staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty.
  • An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience including one year of the administrative supervisory experience described above.
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and five years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience including one year of the administrative supervisory experience described above.
Additional Information

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
