Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Family Services Specialist to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a key member of our social services department, you will be responsible for providing critical support to vulnerable populations and ensuring the delivery of high-quality services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret and apply laws, policies, and regulations related to human services program areas.
  • Monitor, coordinate, and administer specific programs as assigned.
  • Coordinate services within specific areas of responsibility.
  • Interview and assess customer needs, and provide counseling and referrals as needed.
  • Present cases to determine appropriate services and develop and implement service plans.
  • Provide case management services to monitor compliance and ensure the delivery of services.
  • Manage program waiting lists and track expenditures.
  • Prepare and submit budget estimates and ensure payment for services.
  • Complete necessary federal, state, and local planning and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate with other agencies and participate in multi-disciplinary and interagency teams.
  • Conduct overall monitoring of programs and serve as a resource to clients and the community.
  • Provide after-hours on-call coverage and respond to emergencies.
Requirements
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field or a related field with a minimum of two years of experience in a Human Services area.
  • Working knowledge of social work principles and practices, human behavior and motivational theory, laws, policies, and regulations relating to human services program areas, and social, economic, and health problems.
  • Skill in operating a personal computer and the operation of a motor vehicle.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, interview, assess needs, counsel, and refer clients to other resources as needed.
