Work Schedule: 8 Hours/Day, Monday through Friday, 11 or 12 Months/Year
Position SummaryThe Teacher I plays a vital role in the educational environment, collaborating closely with the Head Teacher, Teacher II, Language Resource Aide, and Full Inclusion Assistant. This position is guided by Head Start Performance Standards, Service Area Written Plans, Procedures, and Policies, as well as California State Community Care Licensing regulations. Responsibilities are carried out in alignment with the organization's policies and relevant federal and state laws.
Key Responsibilities- Design and lead engaging classroom activities for children.
- Assist in the daily supervision and care of children.
- Foster warm, professional relationships with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Engage in meaningful conversations with children throughout the day.
- Support screenings, observations, and ongoing assessments of children.
- Encourage language development in both primary and secondary languages.
- Promote health and nutrition, contributing to a safe and healthy environment.
- Adhere to health and safety standards for children and staff.
- Assist with administrative tasks as directed.
- Maintain confidentiality of client information and records.
- Contribute to special projects relevant to classroom activities.
- Undertake additional assignments as required by the Center Director and Teacher II.
- Collaborate with service area managers and center staff to ensure quality services.
- Participate in required training and meetings.
- Engage in team-building processes through constructive communication.
- Ensure the safety and supervision of children during their time at the center.
- Participate in distance learning instruction as needed.
- Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Twelve units in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or Early Childhood Development (ECD) covering child growth and development, family and community dynamics, and program curriculum.
- A California Children's Center Permit or Child Development Associate Teacher Permit, or the willingness to obtain one within the first three months of employment.
- Six months of teaching experience in a preschool setting.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid California Driver's License and access to a properly insured vehicle.
- Ability to pass criminal record clearance and meet health screening requirements prior to employment.
- Willingness to complete Pediatric First Aid, CPR, and Health and Safety training.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Understanding of child development principles and adult learning styles.
- Familiarity with bilingual and multicultural education principles.
- Basic computer skills, including word processing and email.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Bilingual skills in Spanish/English are preferred.
- Sensitivity to diverse cultural backgrounds and low-income families.
- Ability to interpret regulations and write reports.
- Basic math skills for practical problem-solving.
- Ability to follow various instructions in different formats.
- Dependable, proactive, and capable of functioning with minimal supervision.
- Genuine interest in child development and building partnerships with families and colleagues.
This role requires regular communication and interaction with children. The employee may need to sit, stand, walk, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. The work environment includes outdoor conditions for a significant portion of the day, with moderate to noisy levels of sound.
Work EnvironmentEmployees may encounter various weather conditions and must be adaptable to changing environments while performing essential job functions.
