Job Description and Duties

Job Summary:

The Caltrans Maintenance Area Superintendent plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the Department of Transportation's maintenance activities. As a key member of the team, this position is responsible for overseeing the maintenance of transportation infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and other facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement maintenance plans to ensure the safe and efficient operation of transportation infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with regional water quality control boards and Caltrans' environmental division to address water quality issues related to NPDES permits.
  • Review and modify Best Management Practices (BMPs) for maintenance activities and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs) for facilities.
  • Train and increase awareness of employees on storm water pollution and its impact on the environment.
  • Conduct field inspections to document compliance with permits and ensure adherence to maintenance standards.
Requirements:
  • Valid California Driver's License (CDL) with a Class C endorsement.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Experience in maintenance operations and storm water management.
Working Conditions:

This position is located in San Bernardino, San Bernardino County. Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.

New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
