POSITION OVERVIEW

The Junior Canine Handler plays a vital role in the screening of cargo, ensuring compliance with TSA regulations. This position requires successful completion of a minimum 4–8 week training program and certification before being assigned to a specific location.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Engage in CCSP training to effectively search cargo and identify potential explosive threats.
  • Perform authorized duties related to X-Ray analysis, physical inspections, and explosive trace detection as necessary.
  • Execute Handler responsibilities while managing a trained explosive detection canine.
  • Maintain accurate training records and documentation.
  • Ensure proper care and upkeep of the assigned certified canine, which is permitted to reside in the employee's home. The living conditions must be suitable, indoor, and climate-controlled, subject to regular inspections.
  • Maintain all necessary job-related certifications and security clearances.
  • Be prepared to operate a company vehicle during on-site training sessions.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • U.S. Citizenship is mandatory.
  • Ability to obtain a Known Traveler Number (KTN) within a specified timeframe of employment.
  • Capability to secure a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge within the required timeframe.
  • Eligibility for a Security Threat Assessment (STA) for Airport Badge within the specified timeframe.
  • Access to reliable transportation for transporting the assigned canine and crate, equipped with operational climate control.
  • Pass the necessary Contract Testing and Certifications for the program within the specified timeframe, with a commitment to maintaining certification standards.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and a clean driving record for the past three years.
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills across all organizational levels.
  • Exhibit strong organizational abilities to manage time and multiple priorities effectively.
  • Possess problem-solving skills with an analytical mindset.
  • Adaptability to a fast-paced and evolving work environment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work conditions may vary from a dynamic training setting to field operations, often subject to frequent interruptions. The role requires outdoor work in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, and humidity. Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic substances, and vibrations may occur. Work hours will align with customer schedules, necessitating availability during nights, weekends, and holidays, with a variable work schedule. Travel may also be a requirement.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be capable of lifting and carrying heavy items weighing up to 100 lbs. The role requires prolonged standing in all weather conditions, along with intermittent sitting, walking, running, climbing, squatting, stretching, bending, and kneeling. Continuous use of hands and fingers to handle objects, tools, or controls is essential, along with reaching with hands and arms.
