Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team at The Good Shepherd in Ashland, OH. Job Responsibilities
  • Administer nursing services in accordance with current applicable guidelines and regulations to ensure the highest degree of quality resident care.
  • Act as the resident advocate and assume responsibility for the quantity and quality of resident care given on assigned shifts.
  • Oversight the day-to-day functions of nursing assistants and ensure they are following established safety regulations and infection control techniques.
  • Assist and support the RN Charge and monitor assigned staff to ensure they are following established safety regulations and infection control techniques.
  • Ensure proper administration of all treatments and medications and accountability of all medications, including narcotics.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.
  • Complete accident/incident reports as necessary and report changes in condition and ensure appropriate documentation regarding such in the medical record.
  • Receive physician's telephone orders and transcribe orders to resident chart, care plan, medication, and treatment records.
  • Chart nurses' notes in an informative and descriptive manner that reflects the care provided to the resident, as well as the resident's response to that care.
  • Order prescribed medications, supplies, and equipment as necessary, and in accordance with established policies.
  • Participate in employee performance evaluations, determine shift staffing requirements, and make recommendations to unit managers/supervisors concerning employee discipline, dismissals, transfers, etc.
  • Inspect the nursing service treatment areas, resident lounges, and rooms to ensure they are maintained in a clean and safe manner.
Requirements
  • Licensure as a Practical Nurse (LPN) with current, active license in the State of Ohio.
  • Long-term care experience is preferred.
  • Able to effectively communicate and listen to families, residents, visitors, staff, and government agencies both orally and in writing.
  • Able to function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, families, and support agencies.
  • Possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures that are necessary for providing quality care.
  • Possess leadership ability and the skills to manage and supervise nonprofessional personnel.
  • Possess willingness to incorporate new methods and principles into existing nursing practices and relay information concerning resident condition.
  • Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult and demanding people.
