Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced LPN to join our team at The Good Shepherd in Ashland, OH. This is a full-time/part-time position working weekends from 7pm to 7am.

Job Responsibilities
  • Administer nursing services in accordance with current guidelines and regulations to ensure high-quality resident care.
  • Act as resident advocate and assume responsibility for resident care on assigned shift.
  • Oversight day-to-day functions of nursing assistants and ensure they follow established safety regulations and infection control techniques.
  • Assist and support RN Charge working within the same unit.
  • Monitor assigned staff to ensure they are following established safety regulations and infection control techniques.
  • Ensure proper administration of all treatments and medications and accountability of all medications, including narcotics.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.
  • Complete accident/incident reports as necessary and ensure appropriate documentation regarding such in the medical record.
  • Receive physician's telephone orders and transcribe orders to resident chart, care plan, medication, and treatment records.
  • Chart nurses' notes in an informative and descriptive manner that reflects the care provided to the resident, as well as the resident's response to that care.
  • Order prescribed medications, supplies, and equipment as necessary, and in accordance with established policies.
  • Participate in employee performance evaluations, determine shift staffing requirements, and make recommendations to unit managers/supervisors concerning employee discipline, dismissals, transfers, etc.
  • Inspect the nursing service treatment areas, resident lounges, and rooms to ensure they are maintained in a clean and safe manner.
  • Review complaints and grievances made by the resident/family, making written and/or oral report to the nurse managers. Report all allegations of abuse and begin immediate investigation.
Requirements
  • Position requires licensure as a Practical Nurse (LPN) with current, active license in the State of Ohio.
  • Long-term care experience is preferred.
  • Able to effectively communicate and listen to families, residents, visitors, staff, and government agencies both orally and in writing.
  • Able to function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, families, and support agencies.
  • Possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures that are necessary for providing quality care.
  • Possess leadership ability and the skills to manage and supervise nonprofessional personnel.
  • Possess willingness to incorporate new methods and principles into existing nursing practices and relay information concerning resident condition.
  • Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult and demanding people.
  • Flexibility in managing schedule, including weekends and evening hours.
  • Valid Ohio driver's license, access to reliable insured transportation, and ability to meet LSS insurance standards required.
