Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced and visionary leader to serve as our Deputy Commissioner of Services. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for directing the long-term strategic planning and relationship management of our blind and visually impaired services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide visionary leadership to elevate blind and visually impaired services in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Direct a diverse statewide system of state and federally funded blind and visually impaired services.
  • Evaluate current methods of service delivery and develop new approaches to enhance service delivery based on data.
  • Ensure that services are responsive to the identified needs of customers.
  • Ensure that federally funded programs meet standards and indicators for performance.
  • Participate in establishing performance goals for all programs and assure that goals are achieved.
Requirements
  • Comprehensive experience in a leadership, management, or supervisor position in a complex human services environment.
  • Extensive management experience in multiple service programs.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and direct employees at all levels in the delivery of services that are responsive to the needs of customers.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of best practices for the rehabilitation of individuals with significant disabilities.
  • Knowledge of state procurement policies, rules, and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Extensive training in vocational rehabilitation, counseling, disability services, social sciences, special education, or public administration.
  • Extensive knowledge of state government operations and rehabilitation practices.
