Skookum is seeking a professional and motivated Grounds and Roads Operations Supervisor with a supportive attitude. The Grounds and Roads Operations Supervisor performs a variety of administrative and semi-skilled to skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of grounds and buildings at Fort Lee. The Grounds and Roads Operations Supervisor provides oversight of Roads and Grounds operations in the absence of the supervisor.

Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with the supervision of equipment operators, mechanics, truck drivers, grounds maintenance workers, laborers, and temporary employees as required.
  • Supporting employee professional development, training, performance evaluations, and counseling.
  • Assisting with executing work priorities and staff assignments.
  • Providing the supervisor with input regarding assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Advising employees regarding official plans, policies, and procedures.
  • Overseeing mowing and grounds maintenance; seeding, fertilizing, top dressing, soil conditioning, watering, and weed control.
  • Overseeing the construction, repair, and maintenance of roads, including clearing, grading, drainage, and foundation work.
  • Overseeing unskilled maintenance of buildings, including removal of vegetation, roof and gutter cleaning, general cleaning, and mold removal.
  • Assisting the supervisor with preparation of various reports; schedules, training, attendance, evaluations, employee documents, timekeeping, and accident reports.
  • Ensuring quality service to meet contract requirements.
  • Following up on discrepancies identified by QC inspections and ensuring corrections are made as necessary.
  • Assisting with the implementation of grounds maintenance safety programs, including issuance of PPE.
  • Conducting supply and equipment inventory of storage areas and ensuring accountability.
  • Planning and organizing workloads and staff assignments; training, motivating, evaluating, and counseling assigned staff; reviewing progress and directing changes as needed.
  • Ensuring that tools and equipment are maintained in accordance with preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Operating tractors and/or mowers and other equipment as necessary.
  • Ensuring all areas are clean, sanitary, safe, and orderly, and remain in a functional state.
  • Maintaining professionalism in both appearance and demeanor.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Roads/Grounds Maintenance and Construction.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Reading and understanding contract requirements and maps.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task throughout the workday, with constant interruptions.
  • Ability to work with computerized work control systems (Microsoft Office) and spreadsheets.
  • CDL B preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance. The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis.

  • Must be able to lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.
  • May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.
  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.
  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.

Requirements:

  • A valid state driver's license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Skookum's insurance.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access. A background check and E-Verify will be conducted for this position.
