Role Summary

The Clinical Dietitian II collaborates with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to deliver patient care that aligns with individualized medical objectives.


Key responsibilities include implementing the Nutrition Care Process (NCP), which encompasses conducting nutrition assessments, establishing nutrition diagnoses, crafting and executing nutrition interventions, and evaluating patient progress.

The Clinical Dietitian II employs the Scope of Dietetics Practice Framework (SODPF) to define their practice scope, adhering to established Standards of Practice and Professional Performance (SOP/SOPP) in nutrition care, while utilizing evidence-based protocols to guide interventions.


Clinical Dietitians II operate independently at a competent to proficient level on pediatric and obstetric units, managing more complex cases, including those in intensive care and specialty clinics.

They also serve as mentors and resources for entry-level dietitians.

Core Responsibilities

The following functions are typical for this job classification and are not intended to be exhaustive:


All employees must comply with Joint Commission Requirements, which include sensitivity to cultural diversity, patient rights, ethical treatment, and safety protocols.


All duties must be performed in accordance with hospital policies, including Service Standards and Code of Conduct.

Must be capable of executing all functions of a Clinical Dietitian Level I.


Contributes significantly to at least one performance improvement initiative or research project annually, or develops/revises two nutrition protocols or educational tools each year.


Leads initiatives using measurable indicators to assess program effectiveness and collects data to track success. Participation in nutrition research studies and dissemination of findings through reports and presentations is also expected.


Mentorship

Guides and trains Clinical Dietitians I.

Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities is acceptable.


Education:
Bachelor’s degree in dietetics, nutrition, or a related field from an accredited institution. Completion of a didactic program in dietetics and a supervised practice program accredited by the relevant council.


Experience:
A minimum of two years of relevant experience is required.

Licensure/Certification:
RD/RDN (Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist) - Valid credential as a Registered Dietitian issued by the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics' Commission on Dietetic Registration.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Demonstrated knowledge of the Nutrition Care Process and the ability to apply its steps effectively.

Comprehensive understanding of nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy.

Familiarity with electronic medical records, nutrient analysis, and software applications.

Strong communication skills in various formats to engage with patients, families, and healthcare teams.

Excellent counseling abilities, with sensitivity to diverse communities and learning styles.

Ability to work independently in assigned care settings.

Critical thinking skills to synthesize information and make informed decisions.

Strong interpersonal skills to foster collaborative relationships with multidisciplinary teams.

Compensation

Salary is determined based on the role's requirements and the candidate's qualifications, including education, experience, and skills. Typically, new hires start within the minimum to mid-range salary.
