Job Announcement:

The City of Henderson is seeking to establish an eligibility list to fill a vacancy for the position of Heavy Equipment Mechanic within the Department of Public Works.

The eligibility list may be utilized to fill future vacancies for this classification for a period of up to six (6) months or one (1) year, depending on employment status.


Position Overview:
Under general supervision, the Heavy Equipment Mechanic will perform a variety of skilled maintenance and repair tasks on heavy machinery within the City's fleet, along with related duties as necessary.


Note for Current Employees:

In accordance with the Teamsters collective bargaining agreement, full-time non-probationary employees who successfully complete the assessment process will be placed on an eligibility list for this classification for up to six (6) months.

Probationary full-time, part-time, temporary employees, and external candidates who pass the testing process will be placed on separate lists, which may be used to fill vacancies for up to one (1) year.

If the vacancy is not filled by full-time non-probationary employees, the separate lists may be utilized.

External candidates, probationary full-time, part-time, and temporary City of Henderson employees will start at the first step of the salary range if selected.


Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school, automotive technical school, or automotive vocational school is required.

Five (5) years of experience in mechanical repairs on automotive equipment is necessary, with at least one (1) year specifically involving mechanical maintenance and repair on gas and diesel-powered heavy construction equipment or similar heavy machinery.


Additional Notes:
An equivalent combination of relevant training and experience may be considered.

Candidates must possess a valid Class A Commercial Nevada Driver's License at the time of appointment or a CDL Instruction Permit, with the requirement to obtain the Class A Commercial License within the first six months of employment.

Additionally, candidates must obtain a Nevada Emission Control License within one year of appointment as a condition of continued employment.

It is essential to possess and maintain the necessary tools to perform duties, including at least a three-drawer rolling tool box.

All required licenses and certificates must be obtained and maintained at the incumbent's expense.
