Position Summary


The primary responsibility of this role is to evaluate the safety profiles of experimental compounds through animal studies and in vitro methodologies.

The data generated is crucial for project teams to mitigate risks and advance candidate compounds through the early phases of development.

The pathologist will also serve as a subject-matter expert and a scientific resource across various departments, contributing significantly to project teams.

Key responsibilities include the design and execution of study protocols, assessment of clinical and anatomic pathology data, data presentation, and report preparation.

The ideal candidate will exhibit scientific curiosity, be a collaborative team member, and be committed to delivering innovative solutions that enhance patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

- Act as the early safety representative on drug discovery teams.

- Anticipate potential toxicities, create safety screens for detection, and develop strategies to mitigate risks while prioritizing the safest compounds for further development.

- Implement scientific strategies that align with cross-functional and interdisciplinary objectives.


- Establish scientific excellence standards by collaborating with multi-disciplinary leaders to integrate these standards into strategic plans.

- Provide proactive advice and share expertise with senior management.


- Deliver results that meet or exceed the expectations of major project plans through effective design, early risk assessments, and fallback strategy implementation.

- Anticipate challenges and continuously seek to leverage new technologies.

- Keep stakeholders informed by presenting scientific concepts and findings to both functional and non-scientific leaders and partners.

- Design, oversee, conduct, and assess studies to evaluate the potential toxicity of experimental compounds across various animal species, including data interpretation in pathology (necropsy, histopathology, clinical pathology, electron microscopy, etc.).


- Integrate anatomic pathology data, clinical pathology data, and other study results to compile a comprehensive pathology report as part of the toxicology documentation.


- Contribute to study protocols, supervise necropsies, perform histological examinations in rodent and non-rodent studies, author pathology reports, conduct peer reviews, and review regulatory documents.


- Collaborate with regulatory toxicologists, pathologists, pharmacokineticists, pharmacologists, and other functions to devise optimal strategies for addressing specific toxicology challenges and selecting compounds for advancement.

- Provide professional consultation to scientific teams in other departments and offer supervision in assigned technical areas.


- Maintain a strong external reputation as a multi-disciplinary expert, leading industry discussions as an invited speaker at external conferences and authoring high-impact articles for peer-reviewed journals.

Qualifications

- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent) with postgraduate training in veterinary pathology.

- Board Certification in Veterinary Anatomic Pathology (ACVP or equivalent) is strongly preferred.

- Candidates with a Ph.D. in pathology or a related field are highly desirable.

- A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry is required.

Familiarity with Related Fields:
- Pharmacology, toxicology, and drug development.

- Extensive experience in biological research and the ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

- Exceptional oral and written communication skills with a proven track record of scientific contributions to the community.

- Demonstrated ability to innovate with a history of successful scientific applications.

- Ability to engage with diverse groups and foster strong working relationships with both internal and external collaborators.

- Capacity to understand varying perspectives and articulate one’s own viewpoint respectfully.

- Skill in negotiating and reconciling interdisciplinary differences to optimize overall business objectives.

- 5-10 years of experience as a veterinary pathologist in the pharmaceutical sector is preferred.
