JOB OVERVIEW:
This role is centered around the PHS&T Engineering within the Logistics and Sustainment Engineering Function (E1553).


Candidates must be local to the Grand Prairie, TX area as they will be required to be on-site several days a week.

The selected individual will work closely with Program Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), Suppliers, and the Shipping Department to align on program Packaging and Shipping requirements.

Responsibilities include identifying and formulating system, subsystems, and component packaging and transportation specifications, as well as assisting in the creation of special packaging instructions (SPI) as necessary.

The role ensures compliance with contractual packaging and DOT CFR 49 POP standards. Shipments may involve Hazardous Materials, whether classified or unclassified. The candidate will support daily shipping operations, assess new packaging methodologies to enhance the shipping process, and collaborate with vendors, integrated product teams, and clients to refine packaging designs. Additionally, the individual will conduct root cause analysis on damaged shipments.


The candidate will serve as the primary point of contact (POC) for the program and will coordinate truck requests through the Shipping department for all relevant sites.

Responsibilities include providing truck contact details to site personnel, ensuring the availability of necessary crates and/or packaging for hardware on-site, tracking the condition of reusable shipping crates, and initiating repairs or replacements as required. The candidate will maintain a list of contacts for each site along with their unique shipping requirements.

Prepare parts, assemblies, and materials for shipment in accordance with vendor and customer specifications, standards, and company shipping protocols.

Prepare address labels and other identification for shipping containers, ensuring compliance with applicable customer, Department of Transportation, and company specifications and standards.

Load transport vehicles, check and secure crated, uncrated, or unpacked raw materials, parts, assemblies, components, and materials. Process shipping documentation and arrange for necessary inspections. Initiate documentation to procure shipping containers and packaging supplies from vendors using the purchase request and other applicable systems.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of shipping practices, procedures, and inspection standards.
  • Proficiency in using company purchase request systems and other relevant computer applications.
  • Familiarity with appropriate handling and packaging protocols and Federal Department of Transportation regulations regarding hazardous materials.
  • Ability to interpret MSDS for receiving, inventorying, and identifying hazardous materials.
  • Competence in operating transportation carriers, computerized shipping meters, label makers, and shipment pricing devices.
  • Capability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Proficiency in using strapping, cutting, and carton-making machinery, as well as processing equipment such as spray guns, electric or motor-powered material moving carts, floor-controlled cranes and hoists, weighing and counting scales, power saws, hand tools, and portable drills.

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • A degree in Packaging Engineering is preferred.
  • A robust technical background.
  • Proficiency in Mechanical Computer Aided Drawing (MCAD) software, preferably CREO.
  • Skills in PTC Pro/E.
  • Strong technical acumen.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to cultivate effective working relationships and thrive in a team environment.
  • Flexibility, a strong work ethic, and the ability to respond promptly to internal and external customer needs.
  • Willingness to work on-site, including overtime and occasional travel to support program needs.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, technical writing experience, and the ability to deliver presentations to large groups.
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials transportation and shipping regulations.
  • Familiarity with military specifications and standards.
  • Understanding of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology.
  • Experience with Code of Federal Regulations Title 49 (Parts).
  • Familiarity with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Technical Instruction for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air, or the International Maritime Organization's International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDGC) as applicable to shipment modes.
  • Experience with commercial packaging in accordance with ASTM D 3951, ensuring storage in enclosed facilities for one year without damage to hardware.
  • Familiarity with Product Data Management software and workflow processes.
