Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Building Engineer to join our team at The University of Chicago Medicine. As a Building Engineer, you will be responsible for identifying, diagnosing, and repairing building utility systems related to low voltage electric wiring controls, heating and ventilating systems, and central refrigeration units.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair building utility systems, including low voltage electric wiring controls, heating and ventilating systems, and central refrigeration units
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on building systems, including plumbing and HVAC systems
  • Work from building blueprints to determine location and layout of circuits, ducts, and piping
  • Use hand tools and power equipment, such as drill presses, saws, and grinding wheels
  • Requisition materials and supplies as needed
  • Keep work area neat, clean, and safe
  • Communicate with patients, visitors, and other Hospital employees with tact and courtesy
  • Follow through on all assigned duties until completion
Requirements
  • High School Graduate
  • Successful completion of recognized apprentice program as Building Engineer or equivalent progressive experience in building repair and maintenance
  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and communicate with others by writing
  • Knowledge of use and maintenance of power and hand equipment used on the job
  • Must be able to work from ladders and scaffolds
  • Must be physically capable of performing the work expected in an efficient manner
  • Must have knowledge of safety rules, practices, and equipment
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively and work with other people
