Job Overview

Position Summary:
As a key member of the rehabilitation team, the Physical Therapy Assistant provides essential support in delivering physical therapy services to residents. This role involves assisting in the assessment, treatment planning, and implementation of therapy programs under the guidance of a licensed physical therapist.

Core Responsibilities:
  1. Deliver physical therapy services to residents while working closely with a supervising physical therapist.
  2. Support the evaluation process by assisting in assessing residents' self-care, mobility, and coordination.
  3. Recognize and assist in evaluations at designated intervals as directed by the physical therapist.
  4. Collaborate with the physical therapist to establish problem lists, short-term and long-term goals, and comprehensive treatment plans.
  5. Conduct individual and group therapy sessions focusing on muscle strength, mobility, balance, and other key areas as outlined in the treatment plan.
  6. Assist in selecting appropriate therapy techniques and adapt them based on resident performance, ensuring consultation with the physical therapist for significant modifications.
  7. Monitor residents' responses to therapy interventions and consult with the physical therapist for necessary adjustments.
  8. Help in organizing and modifying individual resident schedules in collaboration with the physical therapist and other team members.
  9. Maintain adherence to departmental schedules while accommodating treatment needs.
  10. Ensure compliance with resident care ratios as established by the physical therapist.
  11. Provide guidance and training on the use of adaptive devices and equipment to residents, families, and staff.
  12. Engage in educational activities for residents, families, and staff to enhance understanding of therapy processes.
  13. Coordinate with team members to ensure a holistic approach to each resident's rehabilitation program.
  14. Follow established procedures for documenting therapy services accurately.
  15. Deliver treatment in line with best practices and departmental standards.
  16. Record treatment times and submit relevant statistics as required.
  17. Maintain a safe and organized work environment, adhering to safety protocols.
  18. Comply with infection control standards and safety regulations.
  19. Exhibit sound judgment in evaluating and implementing therapy programs.
  20. Foster positive relationships with residents, families, and colleagues.
  21. Demonstrate punctuality and maintain an efficient work schedule.
  22. Commit to ongoing professional development and education.
  23. Participate in quality assurance initiatives as needed.
  24. Uphold confidentiality standards in accordance with healthcare regulations.
  25. Project a professional demeanor at all times.
  26. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  1. Associate Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited institution.
  2. Current state licensure or eligibility for licensure where applicable.
  3. Consistent attendance and reliability.
Physical Requirements:

This position requires the ability to exert moderate physical effort, including lifting and transferring residents. The role involves standing, walking, and using hands for various tasks. Visual and auditory acuity is necessary for assessing resident safety and capabilities. Compliance with safety standards and the use of protective equipment is mandatory.
