Position Overview

The Environmental Services Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe and hygienic environment within specialized healthcare settings, such as surgical and recovery areas. This position emphasizes the importance of effective cleaning, disinfection, and adherence to quality assurance protocols to minimize the presence of harmful pathogens, thereby ensuring the well-being of patients, visitors, and healthcare staff.

As a key member of the environmental services team, the technician is responsible for upholding the highest standards of cleanliness and infection control, significantly contributing to the overall patient experience.


Key Responsibilities
  • Perform thorough cleaning and disinfection of specialized units and equipment, including but not limited to Surgical Services and Recovery Areas.
  • Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of healthcare cleaning principles, safe chemical usage, and effective equipment handling.
  • Adhere to all safety and infection control standards, fostering a culture of safety within the organization.
  • Maintain accurate logs and checklists to ensure compliance with cleaning protocols.
  • Follow established procedures for cleaning and disinfecting equipment and assigned areas, in accordance with organizational policies and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of cleaning requirements for sensitive environments, ensuring adherence to evidence-based practices as recommended by relevant healthcare associations.
  • Manage supplies and equipment by keeping the environmental services cart organized and well-stocked.
  • Properly dispose of waste, identifying the correct waste streams for various types of materials.
  • Implement infection prevention practices, including proper cleaning protocols, hand hygiene, and the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Respect patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate personal accountability and initiative in addressing and resolving issues.
  • Understand and comply with facility safety requirements.
  • Effectively operate and maintain all necessary tools and equipment for cleaning and disinfection.
  • Assist in the training of new Environmental Services Technicians as needed.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in healthcare environmental services is preferred.
  • Ability to distinguish between different levels of disinfection and perform necessary procedures.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain cleaning processes clearly.
  • Willingness to listen to and respect the perspectives of others.

Health Requirements
  • PPD (TB test) clearance.
  • Blood tests for immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Chickenpox, and Hepatitis B.
  • COVID VACCINATION REQUIRED
  • Flu vaccination is also required.
