Healthcare Environmental Services Technician

The Environmental Services Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe and hygienic environment within specialized healthcare settings, such as surgical and peri-operative areas. This position emphasizes the importance of effective cleaning, disinfection, and quality assurance to minimize harmful pathogens, thereby enhancing the safety of patients, visitors, and staff.
Work Schedule:
Tuesday - Friday (Shift starts between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM for a 4-hour duration)
Compensation:
$15.50 per hour
Key Responsibilities:
1. Execute cleaning and disinfection protocols for specialized units and equipment, including but not limited to Surgical Services and Recovery Areas.
2. Demonstrate a thorough understanding of healthcare cleaning principles, safe chemical usage, and proper equipment handling.
3. Adhere to all safety, risk management, and infection control standards to foster a culture of safety.
4. Maintain accurate logs and checklists to ensure compliance with cleaning procedures.
5. Ensure the proper cleaning and disinfection of equipment and assigned areas, following established policies and manufacturer guidelines.
6. Stay informed about cleaning requirements for sensitive environments and adhere to best practices.
7. Manage supplies and equipment effectively, ensuring the environmental services cart is well-stocked and organized.
8. Dispose of waste appropriately, identifying the correct waste streams (regulated medical, recycling, solid, and hazardous).
9. Follow environmental and infection prevention protocols, including proper hand hygiene and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
10. Uphold patient privacy standards in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
Additional Duties:
1. Exhibit personal accountability and take initiative in resolving issues.
2. Familiarize oneself with facility safety requirements and protocols.
3. Operate and maintain all necessary EVS tools and equipment for effective cleaning and disinfection.
4. Assist in the training of new Environmental Services Technicians as needed.
Qualifications:
Education:
High School Diploma or GED is required.
Experience:
Minimum of 1 year of experience in healthcare environmental services.
Special Skills:
1. Ability to differentiate between levels of disinfection and perform necessary procedures.
2. Proficient in reading and writing English at a 6th-9th grade level.
3. Strong communication skills, fostering a collaborative work environment.
Health Requirements:
1. PPD (TB test) clearance.
2. Blood tests for immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Chickenpox, and Hepatitis B.
Vaccination Requirements:
1. COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory.
2. Annual flu vaccination is required.
