Position Overview
At Houston Methodist, the Clinical Research Operations Supervisor is tasked with overseeing intricate research initiatives that may encompass multiple locations and/or research teams engaged in various research activities.
This role involves direct supervision of research personnel to guarantee effective planning, management, and coordination of clinical research projects.
Key Responsibilities
The Clinical Research Operations Supervisor is responsible for monitoring the progress and performance of all projects, ensuring quality of services, adherence to timelines, financial feasibility, and compliance with federal, state, and other regulations, as well as the guidelines set forth by Houston Methodist Research Institute (HMRI).
This position also offers strategic guidance to departmental and HMRI leadership on pertinent clinical trial matters and development.
Management Duties
The supervisor's responsibilities include overseeing the daily operations of the department staff, ensuring quality, productivity, and operational excellence while assisting management in achieving strategic and operational goals.
Additionally, this role involves providing mentorship to staff and managing staffing, budget adherence, and contributing to staffing decisions such as recruitment and termination, as well as coaching and counseling employees regarding work performance.
Training and Compliance
This position implements training and operational initiatives that ensure compliance with ethical and legal business practices and accreditation/regulatory/government regulations.
People Management Functions
Responsible for selection, scheduling, supervision, retention, and evaluation of employees within the department. The supervisor will provide development and mentoring for staff, aiming to meet or exceed departmental turnover goals.
Conducts regular departmental meetings to review policies, procedures, and operational matters, ensuring effective communication and engagement among employees.
Service Delivery
Plans and organizes daily departmental operations, setting priorities and functional standards to ensure optimal service delivery and high levels of customer/patient satisfaction.
Actively participates in various committees, representing the department and driving service standards to enhance patient/customer satisfaction.
Quality and Safety Assurance
Ensures a safe and effective working environment by monitoring and revising safety plans and accreditation requirements. This includes overseeing staff credentialing and competency maintenance.
Utilizes information systems to improve operations and supports performance improvement initiatives.
Financial Management
Assists in developing departmental budgets and ensures cost-effective operations. This includes managing department expenses within approved budget parameters and implementing strategies to achieve financial targets.
Growth and Innovation
Identifies and implements innovative solutions to enhance departmental operations and supports change initiatives effectively.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline/life sciences or nursing (BSN) is required, with a Master's degree preferred.
Five years of experience in the field, including one year in a managerial role within healthcare, is required.
