Job Summary

As an Estimator at RL Siteworx, you will play a crucial role in our project planning and execution process. Your primary responsibility will be to accurately estimate the costs of earthwork and/or utility construction projects, ensuring our bids are competitive while maintaining profitability. You will work closely with our project management team to analyze project requirements, interpret blueprints, and develop detailed cost estimates. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to develop relationships with subcontractors and suppliers, contributing to the overall success of our projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accurately estimate costs involved in earthwork and site utilities construction projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and other expenses.
  • Prepare competitive bids that win contracts while ensuring the company achieves a reasonable profit margin.
  • Assess project risks and incorporate contingencies into estimates to account for unforeseen events that could impact costs.
  • Look for opportunities to optimize costs without compromising the quality or integrity of the project through value engineering.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure estimates align with project requirements and objectives.
  • Strive to improve estimating processes by incorporating feedback, adopting new technologies, and staying updated with industry trends.
  • Consider the needs and expectations of clients when preparing estimates, aiming to deliver value and exceed customer expectations.
  • Analyze feedback loop data.
  • Track awarded contracts as required, including estimating/pricing extra work items, change orders, etc.
Requirements
  • Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in construction estimating software, ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications, knowledge of construction materials and methods.
  • Quantitative Skills: Strong mathematical and analytical skills for calculating quantities, costs, and preparing estimates.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to accurately review and analyze project documents, identify potential issues, and provide detailed estimates.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Capacity to identify challenges, develop solutions, and make recommendations to optimize costs and improve project efficiency.
  • Communication Skills: Effective communication with project teams, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather information, present estimates, and negotiate contracts.
  • Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and work efficiently to meet project requirements.
  • Negotiation Skills: Ability to negotiate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing and favorable contract terms.
  • Cost Control: Understanding of cost control techniques and strategies to monitor and manage project costs throughout the construction process.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in a team environment, collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to achieve project goals.
  • Ethical Standards: Adherence to ethical standards and practices in preparing estimates, handling confidential information, and conducting business transactions.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Some college education preferred but not required.
  • Must possess a valid/active driver's license and a functioning vehicle.
  • 3 years of experience in estimating earthwork and underground utilities – water, sanitary sewer, and storm on private or public projects.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • This position will require travel around the Houston area - up to 15%.
Compensation
  • Competitive base salary: $80,000 - $120,000.
  • Bonus program or Commissions.
